Brazilian Rosewood (Jacaranda)
Brazilian rosewood is a broad-leaved tree belonging to the legume family, native to Brazil in South America, and its scientific name is Dalbergia nigra. In Japan, it has long been known as "Jacaranda" and is widely recognized as one of the world's three finest woods. Its deep reddish-brown to purplish-brown color and unique grain with flowing black stripes give it an elegance and dignity that cannot be replaced by other woods.
This wood is very dense and fine, and when polished, it develops a deep luster and a smooth texture. It is also known for its subtle sweet fragrance and has been used for centuries in high-end furniture, musical instruments, and crafts. In particular, it is highly valued by master craftsmen worldwide for its superior acoustic properties in high-end musical instruments such as guitars and pianos, and has become an iconic material for vintage instruments.
However, due to past overlogging, Brazilian rosewood resources have been severely depleted, and international trade is now strictly restricted by the Washington Convention (CITES). As a result, new logs rarely enter the market, and much of the wood currently used in crafts and musical instruments is precious stock that was logged in the past and stored for many years.
Wood with particularly beautiful grain patterns is extremely rare, and the flowing stripes and sometimes wavy grain create a landscape that resembles a natural painting. Its deep color and substantial texture become more lustrous with age, and the more you use it, the richer its appearance becomes.
Its history as a world-renowned precious wood, its rarity, and the beautiful grain created by nature.
Brazilian rosewood is truly a work of art among woods.
