Sapele mahogany, also known as "Gold Coast cedar," is a deciduous broad-leaved tree belonging to the Entandropragma genus of the Meliaceae family.
It has attracted attention as a material of the same quality as mahogany, one of the world's three most prized hardwoods, and in recent years has become such a valuable wood that it has been listed on the Red List.
The remarkably unique grain pattern that occasionally appears in this wood is called "ribbon grain." Ribbons are said to symbolize "promises" and "bonds," making this grain pattern extremely auspicious as a symbol of matchmaking and fostering connections.
